Anxiety
You can access counselling directly by completing the self-referral form at Vita Health Group or call 03300945595. You can speak to a member of the local NHS mental health team 24/7 by calling the Central Access Point on 0116 295 3060. Alternatively you can book a routine appointment with a GP either online or by calling 0116 295 0600.
Back Pain
In the first instance you should visit your Community Pharmacy and have a look at NHS Back Pain Advice. If your condition is not resolving with the above measures, or you are advised to see a GP, then please book an appointment with the surgery. You can self-refer to physiotherapy by calling 0300 300 0046.
Blood Pressure
Please ask a member of Patient Services to help you use the machine in reception if you wish to check your Blood Pressure. Alternatively, you can book in with a Health Care Assitant to have a blood pressure check. If you would like to discuss medication or lifestyle changes related to blood pressure please call 0116 295 0600 and ask for an appointment with the practice pharmacist. Blood Tests
To adhere to the Goverments social distancing measures, the Practice has moved to a bookable appointment system, therefore patients will no longer be able to "walk-in" and you will need to book a time to come for you appointment. Clinics will be taking place every weekday with appointments available from 8am-11am. Breathlessness

Breastfeeding Advice

Bruised Ribs
Please first read NHS Rib Injury advice to see if you need to attend A&E or see a GP. If you don't need to attend A&E you may find your Community Pharmacist can provide you with the help you need. They will advise you to see your GP if they cannot safely resolve your problem.
Burns
If severe you should attend the A&E at Leicester Royal Infirmary straight away. For mild burns you can book a sameday appointment either online, or by calling Patient Services if you are unable to use the online system. Cellulitis (Skin Infection)
First check the NHS.uk website to find out if you need to urgently access help. If the advice is to see your GP, please book an appointment either online, or by calling Patient Services if you cannot use the online system, or if you feel it may not be safe to wait for the next available routine appointment.
Cervical Smears
Once you have received an invite please book an appointment with a Practice Nurse either online or by calling 0116 295 0600. The appointment should be on a day when you are not bleeding or on your period. If you have not received an invite but think you should have please call Patient Services on the number above.
Chest Infection
First check the NHS.uk website to find out if you need to urgently access help. Please note that if you are otherwise fit and well, most chesty coughs are viral and will self resolve within 7-10 days. You may benefit from speaking to your local pharmacist about how to manage your symptoms at home. They will advise you to see your GP if they cannot safely manage your condition. If you are advised to see a GP by the pharmacist or the NHS.uk website then please book online or via telephone. If you are concerned it may not be safe to wait for the next routine appointment please speak to Patient Services.
Chest Pain
Children's Immunisations
For childhood immunisations you should receive an appointment letter through the post when the injections are due. However, if you feel an appointment is needed, please book an appointment with the Practice Nurse by calling 0116 295 0600.
Chronic Pain

Chronic Heart Disease
You will be sent an appointment for an annual comprehensive health check. If you do not hear from us after a year has elapsed please contact the surgery. If you feel your heart disease is getting worse please call the surgery so we can arrange for you to be seen in the most suitable appointment.
Coils or Implants
If you wish to discuss having a coil or implant inserted/removed please book a routine appointment with the GP of your choice. Appointments can be booked online or by calling 0116 295 0600.
Cold Sores
Please see your local pharmacist or have a look online at NHS Cold Sores Advice.
Common Colds
Antibiotics are not needed for common colds as they are caused by viruses. Please first consult your local pharmacist or visit NHS Common Cold Advice. Call the surgery or 111 if you are not sure if it is safe to wait until the next routine appointment.
Constipation or Piles

Contraception & Family Planning
You can either make a routine appointment with a GP or Practice Nurse at the surgery or you may wish to access a local Family Planning/Sexual Health Clinic.
Cough
Most coughs are self limiting and will resolve within 3 weeks. In the first instance you could either consult your local pharmacist or NHS Cough Advice. If you are worried about a child with a cough please first have a look at Caring for Children with Coughs. Dental Problems
It is not possible for the practice to provide dental care. If you have a dental problem you should consult your dentist. If you need emergency dental care please call 03300 417 062 between 8am and 8pm, seven days a week, or NHS 111 outside of these hours.
Depot Injection
Please book an appointment with the Practice Nurse either online or by calling 0116 295 0600. For first injections, the appointment will either need to be with Cath Morgan or one of the doctors. Alternatively, you can attend a local Family Planning/Sexual Health Clinic.
Depression
You can self-refer to the local NHS mental health team 24/7 by calling the Central Access Point on 0116 295 3060. Diabetes Monitoring
You will be invited in for a comprehensive annual review. If you have not heard from us after a year has elapsed then please call the surgery. Diarrhoea

Diet & Lifestyle Change

Dizziness
If your dizziness is sudden onset and associated with facial weakness, limb weakness or slurring of speech you should call 999. However, if your symptoms are mild then your local pharmacist will likely be able to help resolve your problem. Domestic Violence

Emergency Contraception
Your local pharmacist is now able to offer Emergency Contraception free of charge. Alternatively, you could attend the local Family Planning/Sexual Health clinic. Otherwise, you can of course call Patient Services or book a sameday appointment online. Please be aware that the sooner you obtain emergency contraception the more effective it will be.
Eye Infection
Your optician can treat most urgent eye problems including eye infections. You could also access help from your local pharmacist. You can also seek advice from an NHS eye specialist clinician by calling 0116 326 5588. If these services cannot resolve your problem you can book an appointment with your GP. If you are worried you symptoms cannot safely wait until the next urgent clinic then please call the surgery for further advice.
Eye Emergencies/Injuries

Flu Vaccine
The practice runs annual flu vaccination clinics in the autumn. All eligible patients will be invited to attend these clinics. Fungal Infections

Please note that fungal nail infections often fail to respond to treatment and require oral medication to be taken for several months requiring blood test monitoring.

Skin Conditions
If you have a new onset rash then please see the section of this menu marked 'Rashes'. For chronic skin conditions such as Eczema or Psoriasis please make a routine appointment with your GP. For enquiries related to creams and medication please arrange an appointment with the Practice Pharmacist.
Smoking Cessation
It's fantastic that you want to stop smoking and the best way to do this is with the support of the local Smoking Cessation team. Sore Eyes
If you have sudden onset severe disturbance of vision, trauma to your eye or severe pain to your whole eyeball you should attend Eye Casualty at the LRI. Otherwise, in the first instance, please either visit your Optician or Community Pharmacist. Most Opticians can now provide NHS free-of-charge urgent appointments for eye problems. If they cannot resolve your problem please make a GP appointment either online or via the telephone.
Sore Penis
If you are at risk of a Sexually Transmitted Infection your first port of call should be the free to access confidential NHS Sexual Health Clinics. Otherwise please make a routine appointment with a GP. You also may find the advice on NHS.uk helpful.
Sore Throat
Most infectious sore throats do not require antibiotics. For further advice please visit your Community Pharmacist or NHS Sore Throat Advice. If your problem remains unresolved then please make a routine appointment with a GP. If you are concerned it may not be safe to wait until the next available appointment then please speak to Patient Services.
Sprains
If you cannot move the affected joint, weight bear, or the affected limb has changed colour/gone numb, you should attend A&E to rule out a fracture. Otherwise, most sprains and strains do not need a GP appointment. In the first instance please visit NHS Sprains Advice. If your symptoms are not settling with these self-care measures after two weeks you can self-refer to the Physiotheraphy service by ringing 0300 300 0046 and quoting your NHS number.
Spirometry Testing
If you suspect you may have Asthma or COPD please make a routine appointment with your GP who will arrange Spirometry testing if appropriate.
Stings
Stings do not need a GP appointment. If you have a severe rapid reaction including lip/tongue swelling, throat swelling or shortness of breath you should call 999. Otherwise, please visit your Community Pharmacist.
Styes
If you have sudden onset severe disturbance of vision, trauma to your eye or severe pain to your whole eyeball you should attend Eye Casualty at the LRI. Otherwise, in the first instance, please either visit your Optician or Community Pharmacist. Most Opticians can now provide NHS free-of-charge urgent appointments for eye problems. If they cannot resolve your problem please make an appointment with a GP.
Sunburn
Sunburn does not need a GP appointment. Please visit your Community Pharmacist in the first instance.

Thrush (Vaginal)
Vaginal thrush does not normally require a GP appointment. In the first instance please visit your Community Pharmacist and/or look online at NHS Thrush Advice. If you have recurrent thrush please either make a routine appointment with a GP or visit www.leicestersexualhealth.nhs.uk/
Travel Vaccinations
Please book a Travel Clinic appointment by calling 0116 295 0600. You will be asked to complete a travel questionnaire prior to your vaccines allowing the Practice Nurse to determine what vaccines you will require. Click here to download the questionnaire. Please leave plenty of time before booking your appointment as you may need a course of injections before you are deemed safe to travel. Further information is available here.
Urine Infections
First check the NHS.uk website to find out if you need to urgently access help. Otherwise, if this is your first suspected urine infection, you are aged under 16, or have complex long-term health conditions/medication then you should book an appointment online or via the telephone with a GP. If you are worried your symptoms cannot safely wait until the next available appointment then please call the surgery for more advice. If none of the above applies, please feel free to bring a sample (sample pots available at reception) to the front desk and complete the suspected UTI form. A nurse will call you back later that day to advise if you need antibiotics, and as to any further action you need to take. Before deciding which service to access please visit NHS UTI Advice.
Vaginal Discharge
If there is any chance you may have been exposed to a Sexually Transmitted Infection now or in the past, your should first attend one of the local free NHS sexual health clinics. Otherwise please make a routine appointment with your GP. Please note: if the discharge is blood (particularly in post-menopausal women) or associated with significant pain be seen as soon as possible. If you are unsure whether it is safe to wait until the next available appointment please call the surgery for more advice.
Verrucae
Verrucae will self resolve but can take up to two years. You do not usually need to see a GP about verrucae. Whilst cryotherapy is an available treatment option it often does not work. For over the counter options please visit your Community Pharmacist. You should only make a routine appointment with a GP if your have exhausted pharmacy options and the verrucae are causing you pain.

Vitamin B12 Injections
If a doctor has advised you to have B12 injections please book an appointment with the Practice Nurse either online or by calling 0116 295 0600.
Vomiting

Warfarin Monitoring
